The Port of New Orleans will build a $40 million refrigerated storage facility for New Orleans Cold Storage at its uptown terminal rather than, as previously planned, at Governor Nicholls Wharf near the French Quarter.
The change in plans occurred after vigorous protests from residents who feared increased truck traffic in their neighborhood and the risk of leaks from the warehouse’s refrigeration system.
