State of the Port of New Orleans: challenged but improving

The global recession has challenged all ports, including New Orleans, but the port is taking steps to improve its infrastructure and increase business, port President and CEO Gary LaGrange said during his annual State of the Port address to the World Trade Club of Greater New Orleans yesterday.

A major boost, he said, is a recently approved per-ton tax credit for Louisiana businesses using Louisiana ports and a tax credit encouraging private investment into public ports. These are “cost effective ways to help local companies compete globally, while also supportingLouisiana ports,” LaGrange said.
