NEW ORLEANS –– On October 9th, 2009 New Orleans’ own monthly music showcases, Soundclash and Uniquity, will partner together to host Ladies First, an all female music showcase held in commemoration of October’s Domestic Violence and Breast Cancer Awareness month. Ladies First will highlight the work of our local female musical artists and spoken word performers and showcase their talents to new audiences within the context of an informative, educational environment. The nonprofit organization Women With a Vision (WWAV) will be on site to offer resources, literature, and information about reproductive health and safety.
The event will feature performances by Evelyn Champagne, Caren Green, TheSeKondElement, Gabrilla Ballard, Kourtney Heart, Na’Tee, Peaches, T. Church “God’s Poet,” iCON “The Artist,” Tank, DJ Beverly Skillz, and more. Special guest speakers include Deon Haywood from Women With a Vision and KAMMs TheACE from Blackout/IdleMindz. Hosted by D. Hess and Jewel Bush.
This event is intended to highlight the talented female artists we have within our community and to help them gain further exposure for their art while providing an educational atmosphere with access to information on domestic violence, reproductive health, and counseling and referral services.
