Free Dance Classes For Students in Jefferson Parish

The New Orleans Ballet Association (NOBA) is once again offering free after-school dance classes at two locations in Jefferson Parish for youth ages 6-18. Registrations for the classes are still being held: St. Jerome Church on Monday, October 18 from 5-7pm and at St. Benilde School on Thursday, October 21 from 6-7pm. St. Benilde will offer two one-hour classes twice a week, and St. Jerome will offer three one-hour classes twice a week, which will be based upon individual student age and experience level. At St. Benilde School, ballet classes are on Tuesdays from 4-6pm, and character classes are on Thursdays from 4-6pm. At St. Jerome Church, ballet classes are on Mondays and Thursdays from 5-8pm. Classes will be offered through December, and at the end of each term, students will perform at a culminating Open House. Classes are first come, first served. Now beginning its fifth successful year, NOBA’s partnership with St. Benilde School in Metairie continues the expansion of NOBA’s educational programs throughout the metropolitan area. Established post-Katrina as a satellite site (November 2005), the program continues to offer ballet and character classes to any student, ages 6-18 in Jefferson Parish. In 2007, a partnership was also established with St. Jerome Church to provide ballet classes that are open to any child ages 6-18 in the parish.

            The program at St. Jerome Church is sponsored by Compliance Technology Group. The St. Benilde program is supported by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council. The grant is administered through the Arts Council of New Orleans.
