Hotel Monteleone Hosts History Book Launch and Legacy Series Luncheon

The Hotel Monteleone is hosting a book signing and champagne toast for its history book, Hotel Monteleone: More Than a Landmark, The Heart of New Orleans Since 1886. The book’s author, Jenny Adams, and designer, Phillip Collier Designs, will be available to sign purchased copies.

Immediately following the book launch is the first luncheon, “Hotel Monteleone: A Literary Landmark,” in the Hotel’s 5-part Legacy Series. Hosted by local media personality, Jeff Crouere, the panel discussion will present an introductory overview of the Hotel’s literary history and Italian-American influence while showcasing the famous authors who helped it to earn the distinction of Literary Landmark. Panelists include Jan and Bob Carr, New Orleans broadcast icons; Mark Cave, curator for the Tennessee Williams holdings at The Historic New Orleans Collection; New Orleans authors Marda Burton and Jenny Adams; Nell Nolan, The Times Picayune social columnist; Susan Larson, local literary critic and WWNO radio host; and Dr. Kenneth Holditch, retired UNO professor, literary historian and guide for New Orleans Literary Tours (as of January 18, 2011).

WHY: History Book: As part of its 125th anniversary celebration, the Hotel Monteleone is releasing its very own book to capture all aspects of its rich history including the construction of the hotel throughout the years, various influencing factors such as fashion trends and cultural events, and stories from the people who have shaped its history.

Legacy Series: Hosted by Jeff Crouere, the 5-part Legacy Series will feature bimonthly panels on the arts, politics and culture of New Orleans. In a luncheon setting, Jeff will guide panelists in a discussion that positions the Hotel Monteleone’s history as an integral part of New Orleans’ history.

HOW: The launch of the history book and the champagne toast are free and open to the public. Attendees can purchase a copy of the book for $40. Authors will be available to inscribe the purchased books.
