Snackery and Gelateria offers homemade Gelato and Sorbetto along with fresh baked goods and king cakes
La Dolce Nola, a “Snackery” and Gelateria, has opened at 200 Metairie Rd in Old Metairie and will begin selling King Cakes for the Carnival season. Store hours are daily 11:00am until 9:00pm (open until 10:00pm on Fridays and Saturdays).
The latest of Old Metairie’s Friedrich Square family of specialty merchants, La Dolce Nola will offer hand-made artisan gelato and sorbetto along with fresh-baked goods including gelato cakes, pastries, candies, and chocolates as well as a retail shop containing gift packages, farmers’ market offerings, and other delectable edibles.
“We are very proud to serve true Italian-style artisan gelato,” said Jennifer Samuels, who serves alongside her husband, Will, as co-owner of La Dolce Nola. “Besides being great-tasting, our gelato is much healthier than regular ice-cream. It’s made mostly from milk, rather than cream, so it has a much smaller percentage of butterfat. Plus, it’s made with less air, so it’s a much denser and richer texture.” Jennifer, who has trained with Italian gelato masters, continued, “Our gelato is made with all-natural ingredients from local dairies and farmers with some ingredients even coming from our own backyard.” Dairy-free sorbetto offerings are made with fresh local in-season produce, and recent sorbetto flavors included Lemon-Basil, Meyer Lemon, and Louisiana Strawberry-Balsamic.
Along with 24 frequently-changing flavors of gelato and sorbetto, La Dolce Nola also offers fresh baked goods including a variety of muffins, bagels, scones, focaccia, and cookies. Beginning Thursday, January 6, the store will also offer King Cakes made in-house. Flavors will include Cream Cheese with Fresh Louisiana Strawberries, Praline, Cinnamon, and Cream Cheese.
