All About Lavonzell
I was born in New Orleans, but moved away with my family when I was relatively young. My father was in the military, so I had to move quite a bit and had the opportunity to meet a tremendous amount of other people, join new communities, and really learn about different types of people, cities and communities. I completed my Bachelor of Arts Degree at Nicholls State University and finished graduate programs at the University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins University. Sports have always been a part of my life from middle school until now, so it’s just natural for me to do this.
What is PLAYNOLA?
PLAYNOLA is New Orleans ' fastest growing sports and social club. Much of who we are is encompassed in our motto, "Meet. Greet. Compete." We want people to be able to connect with others in a fun, safe atmosphere. Part of the focus is that you can join with a team or by yourself. You don't have to 'know' anyone to participate. We facilitate games and hopefully new relationships. I started PLAYNOLA because I saw a need in the city for an organization that would facilitate this type of environment.
Young Professional Retention Depends On Relationships
I think many major cities have grappled with how to retain young people and the factors that make them stay as the young professionals will be the future leaders. When people forge relationships with others and establish a strong network around them, they are less inclined to move away. PLAYNOLA seeks to establish these relationships through fun, interactive, playful settings whether it’s through sports or social events.
New Orleans Love
I love that despite its struggles and challenges - things we often lament about, New Orleans is made up of some very wonderful people, many who never get the spotlight and attention (and may never want it). These are the people who really make the city what it is. Not me, but them.
