Place Based Economic Development in Downtown New OrleansCreating a fertile environment for entrepreneurship begins with creating a place that is not only attractive economically, but also culturally and intellectually.  After Hurricane Katrina, the Downtown Development District of New Orleans (DDD) focused its mission on attracting and retaining Industries of the Mind—specifically bioscience, digital media and arts-based businesses—in belief that the growth of these creative industries would be essential to the city’s economic recovery.   As a result, Downtown New Orleans is now emerging as one of the nation’s new hubs for artists, filmmakers, engineers, entrepreneurs and visionaries of any kind, and it is like nowhere else to live and pursue a dream.  Find out how we did it.  Topics to include State & Federal incentives, creative financing tools, the role of placemaking in site selection.
