New Orleans Citizens All Abuzz On Twitter Over Mayoral Debate

Town hall meetings, television coverage, and even radio broadcasts are not uncommon when a mayoral debate is taking place. But New Orleans citizens had twitter all abuzz with no holds bar conversations on Twitter during the recent mayoral debate. A variety of questions from public blight to crime was raised during the debate with the use of the #nolamayor and #NOLAMayoralDebate hashtags.

Reducing crime, addressing blighted properties and developing the local economy were among the topics debated Tuesday in the city's first televised mayoral debate.
Twelve of the 13 candidates for mayor participated Tuesday in the first debate since they all qualified to run for office last week.

Throwing a wrench into a crowded New Orleans mayoral contest that seemed to be all but set on the eve of qualifying, Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu appears poised to enter the race for the open seat today, reversing a midsummer announcement that he would opt out.
Sources close to Landrieu, who lost a tight runoff to Mayor Ray Nagin in 2006, said the lieutenant governor will attend a morning news conference at Cafe Reconcile and urged reporters to be on hand. Landrieu could not be reached for comment.
