On August 27, the City of New Orleans will join the ranks of cities with ideas worth spreading as it hosts TEDxNOLA, a full day of the globally renowned TEDTalks as part of this year’s Katrina anniversary week. The event, “TEDxNOLA: Crisis and Creativity,” is a local, self-organized conference convened to explore the pivotal role crises play in developing innovative, groundbreaking ideas, and is bringing together some of the world’s most visionary intellects to examine the opportunities left behind in the wake of disasters including New Orleans Mayor Mitchell J. Landrieu.
Mayor Landrieu will take the stage along with a diverse group of speakers to address the question of how the power of creativity can be used to turn negative events into positive outcomes discussing a broad range of topics.
Speakers scheduled to appear at this year’s TEDxNOLA event include:
· Chef John Besh – Local chef and restaurateur
· Allison Plyer, Greater New Orleans Community Data Center
· Wendell Pierce – Actor and neighborhood advocate leading rebuild of Pontchartrain Park, the oldest African American neighborhood in New Orleans
· Harry Shearer – Actor, writer and filmmaker
· Billy Nungesser – President of Plaquemines Parish
· Richard McCarthy, MarketUmbrella.org – Founder and executive director of the Crescent City Farmers Market
· Kimberly Rivers Roberts, “Trouble the Water”
· Branford Marsalis – Musician and songwriter
· Robbie Vitrano, CEO of Trumpet Branding Firm

TEDxNOLA begins at 9 a.m. at Le Petit Theatre du Vieux Carre located at 616 St. Peter St. with a musical performance by Shamarr Allen. Other performances have been scheduled throughout the day.
