The city I love so dearly is full of talent! Creativity, entrepreneurial spirit and proactive individuals walk the street each day carrying their “who dat” pride in their heart. Every moment I become more in awe of the richness of the people of New Orleans, who take time to make a difference and strengthen the rebirth of our beloved city. With the hard work of our citizens, industries have begun to build stronger presences. They have created a culture of collaboration, with likeminded people in the city wanting to do more and show the world what they have to offer.
One of the most recent industries that New Orleans has brought into the fold is the fashion industry. For many years we have had many talented individuals from throughout Louisiana embark on a journey through fashion. From designers to stylists and fashion bloggers, they have helped show us how our art and culture have an effect on fashion.
To denote the passion our city and state has for fashion, the inaugural NOLA Fashion Week will make its introduction in March 2011. These festivities will create opportunities for Southern based designers to showcase their talent and make the fashion industry take notice. The week will be filled with events and activities that highlight the artistic and fashion forward venues and individuals in New Orleans. In a two day finale ten full length runway shows will blow minds across the world with their Fall/Winter Collections.
Four designers already committed to NOLA Fashion Week are Elsa Brodmann of Ottilie Brodmann, Leah Bauer of Los Angeles-based Circus Now, Isabela Varela of Izavel, and Matthew Arthur of Matthew Arthur Apparel Architecture. This is just the starting list of the visionaries you will get to see flourish before your eyes. Not only talented designers, but Louisiana based hair and makeup stylists will be on hand to give finishing touches, such as Micah Nickens of 1699 Salon in Baton Rouge and Courtney Bradberry of Paris Parker Aveda in New Orleans.
Bringing this opportunity to our city are three entrepreneurs who display style and class: Andi Eaton, founder of Andi Eaton Creatives; the famous Nicholas Landry of *NLE (Nicholas Landry Events); and Rachael LaRoche, founder of Exacta Group and Ruffian Swap. These three make up #LAisthenewLA, which notes the positive changes in the Louisiana fashion scene.
Prepare yourself for a week of talent that New Orleans, and Louisiana as a whole, has to offer with its own special fashion twist.
