Launch Party for the 4^th Annual New Orleans Fire Fighters Look Hot Calendar with guest emcee Mike Theis

 Bienville House Hotel & Decatur Street Fire Station; 300 Block of Decatur Street

This event is free and open to the public.

The annual firemen’s calendar produced by the New Orleans Fire Fighters Foundation provides additional funding needed to close the gap on special projects. The calendar sales will generate funds that the foundation will use to purchase thermal imagers. 

The event is presented by the Bienville House Hotel, Firefly and 3 Alarm Red Wine. Food will be available from House of Blues and the Hotel Monteleone and attendees will receive two drink tickets with the purchase of a 2011 calendar. Drink tickets can also be purchased for $5 each. 2011 Fire Fighter Calendars will be on sale at the event for $20. Fire fighters will also be on site to autograph calendars and take pictures with guests.

Odyssey House Hosts Fundraiser

Odyssey House Louisiana, a nonprofit behavioral healthcare facility with an emphasis on addiction treatment, is hosting a "Painting with a Purpose" fundraiser at two Corks N' Canvas locations on Sunday, September 19 from 3 PM until 6 PM. Abita launches S.O.S. pilsner to aid Gulf Coast

n July, Abita will ship 120,000 bottles of its new pilsner across the country emblazoned with an urgent message: S.O.S., or Save Our Coast. For each 22-ounce bottle of S.O.S. sold, the north coast brewery will donate $0.75 to restore the Gulf Coast and support the men and women affected by the BP oil disaster.



The beer is an unfiltered weizen pils with a high, 7% alcohol content. It’s a new recipe and part of Abita’s “big beer” series of stronger brews, like Andygator and Abbey Ale, sold only in large “bomber” bottles.

Lest we forget, in the midst of a renewed New Orleans, Haiti still desperately needs our help. Images Without Borders is the collaboration of 125 world class photographers from 7 countries selling prints including those shown below. 

New Orleans' own Laura Bergerol joins Peter Carey, Tomas Van Houtryve, Martin Vargas, Jeffrey Lynch, Scott Wood, Julie Dermansky, George Long, Kit Wohl, Gunther Deichman, and Ian Talbot and others with over 400 fine art prints for sale. Many have already been sold thanks to Photo Shelter donating a host web site.

Brian Bordainick, New Orleans Teacher, Working To Build 'Field Of Dreams' In Ninth Ward

New Orleans high school teacher Brian Bordainick, at only 24 years old, is making a lifetime's worth of difference in the city's Ninth Ward. After a year of fundraising, he's nearing his goal of $1.85 million dollars to build a new athletic field, what's being called the Ninth Ward Field of Dreams.

When he started over a year ago, the "school" was really just eight trailers in a parking lot. He's now the athletic director at George Washington Carver High and, with sponsors including Nike and ESPN, may soon realize a dream that other teachers once deemed impossible.

Save Our Schools Nola Cocktail Hour Fundraiser

Save Our Schools NOLA and the W Hotel are hosting a cocktail hour fundraiser at the W’s posh Zöe Lounge on Wednesday, January 20 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The party will raise funds for SOSNOLA’s “Finding Our Voices” 2010 Student Workshop Series.

Party guests will be treated to complimentary New Orleans Rum specialty drinks and signature hors d’oeuvres by Zöe’s popular
new chef Chris Brown; to the energy of DJ Real spinning lounge and Jazz music; and to a raffle for a chance to win a luxury Prize Package including a
one night stay at the W. Guests will enjoy all this and support an important learning experience for public school students.

As the Saints began their season, the W Hotel (333 Poydras St.) is thinking about the next generation of football stars. On Friday, August 21, from 5:59 to 7:39, the hotel's Zoe Lounge is raising money to rebuild the football stadium and running track at George Washington Carver High School in the 9th Ward.

NFL, NBA stars to help New Orleans firefighter event

Oct. 13 is the date selected for the Second annual Metro Firefighters Association Benefit Golf Tournament.

The event will be held at the Lakewood Golf Course in Algiers and benefits the National Fallen Firefighters Association. Doug Daussin of Fire District No. 4 in Mandeville said departments from Orleans and Jefferson parishes and elsewhere will join together to make sure the occasion is not only fun for all participants, but financially successful as well.
