No longer owned by Tom Benson, New Orleans VooDoo to restart operations

WWL First News is reporting that sources have told them the New Orleans VooDoo will once again start up football operations and begin playing in the New Orleans Arena starting in March 2011.

Three years ago, New Orleans Saints' owner Tom Benson ceased operations of the team from the Arena Football League. Citing "circumstances affecting the league and thea team," there was just no keeping the team playing in the Arena. Well, as they called it, the "Graveyard."

The New Orleans Saints Break Television Records

The Saints are drawing bigger television audiences to the NFL than any team has in history. It seems like every time they play a vitally important game to their season, or the NFL season in general, they break some sort of ratings record.

This was once again true in their huge season opener against the Vikings on September 9. The Saints and Vikings had the highest TV ratings of any NFL season opener in history. Not to mention it had 27.5 million viewers. It broke multiple records such as being the most watched NFL prime time regular season game ever broadcasted on NBC.

The Saints will go marching in to the White House next month.

President Barack Obama will welcome the Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints on Aug. 9.

The Saints electrified their city and fans by beating the Indianapolis Colts, 31-17, in February.

New Orleans Filling Up For Super Bowl

Mardi Gras falls on a Sunday this year.

The city of the Saints is filling up with ex-New Orleanians and others ahead of the Super Bowl, many looking to cast off a legacy of football futility and natural disaster -- others just looking to party down in one of the world's greatest party towns.

"We're gearing up for Sunday just like Mardi Gras day," said Earl Bernhardt, a bar owner in the French Quarter. "We're staffing just like we do for Mardi Gras, and if the Saints win, we won't close at all. We'll stay open as long as people are standing."

New Orleans Saints Pro Bowlers get first taste of Super Bowl experience

IAMI GARDENS, FLA. - The Saints' Pro Bowl players touched down in Miami on Sunday afternoon and got a sneak preview of their Super Bowl experience.

The elite group of seven New Orleans all-stars went on a scouting mission for the rest of their team while making a cameo appearance before kickoff of Sunday's AFC-NFC showdown in the same Sun Life Stadium that will host next week's championship game.

NEW ORLEANS — In most cities with N.F.L. teams, you expect a fair number of citizens to be fans of other teams. New Orleans may be the exception.

Everyone here seems to be a Saints fan, and that includes Douglas Evans.

Evans has been the president and chief executive of the Dryades Y.M.C.A. for the last 39 years. He came here from Evergreen, Ala., to attend Dillard University. Evans played football on the school’s last football team, in 1965, and tried out for the Saints, who started play in 1967.

New Orleans Saints continue to spread touchdown wealth

 New Orleans Saints tight end David Thomas backed up his impressive outing against the St. Louis Rams last week with a strong performance Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium.

He caught four passes for 66 yards, none more important than his 11-yard touchdown reception from Drew Brees on the Saints' opening possession of the second half. That score gave the Saints a 24-7 lead and made Thomas the 18th member of the Saints to score a touchdown this season.

McAlister joins New Orleans Saints seeking Super Bowl

Just as quarterback Drew Brees says he signed with New Orleans for a “reason,’’ so apparently has Chris McAlister, the newest Saint on the block.

The 10th overall pick of the 1999 draft by the Baltimore Ravens reportedly signed a one-year contract Tuesday to help shore up the Black and Gold’s banged-up secondary, specifically at the cornerback position, where starters Jabari Greer (groin) and Tracy Porter (knee) are both sidelined with injuries.
