Not in the mood for Christmas? Caroling in Jackson Square will give you a dose of holiday spirit! This event has been organized by the Patio Planters of Vieux Carré since 1946, and is one of the most fun, heart-warming holiday traditions that New Orleans has to offer. Caroling in Jackson Square always occurs the Sunday before Christmas. Caroling begins at 7PM, and the gates to Jackson Square open at 6:30. Candles and song sheets are handed out at the gates. Caroling in Jackson Square is fun for the whole family; bring your children, don the reindeer antlers or a Santa hat, and make this a family outing. This event is not just for kids, however; organize a group of friends and meet for a hot buttered rum beforehand or go to dinner after. Caroling in Jackson Square is free and open to the public. Singing Christmas carols among hundreds of people is so joyous and embodies the great community spirit of New Orleans. I hope you will consider making Caroling in Jackson Square one of your holiday traditions.
