In partnership with the New Orleans Museum of Art, the New Orleans Film Society presents a FREE outdoor screening of the classic 1933 film King Kong in the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden on the grounds of NOMA.

Sneak Peak of "Flood Streets"

On February 17th at 7pm, NOVAC, New Orleans Video Access Center, is holding a private sneak peek of "Flood Streets," an independent and locally produced feature film co-written and produced by Helen Krieger and co-written and directed by Joseph Meissner.

The event will be held at Vintage Uptown at 4523 Magazine Street.

"Flood Streets" explores New Orleans' bohemian counterculture in the year following Hurricane Katrina, interweaving characters as eccentric and diverse as the city itself. This event is free of charge, but donations benefiting NOVAC will be accepted at the screening.

Marky Mark in New Orleans?

That’s right! Mark Wahlberg of the “Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch", is filming a new movie here in New Orleans. The movie, Contraband, starring Mark Wahlberg and Kate Beckinsale, is said to be released, March 16, 2012. This crime thriller began shooting around January 17th and is rumored to continued shooting through until March. Mark Wahlberg will be playing a security guard who is struggling financially. The films plot centers on when he comes upon a very intriguing offer, and now has to decide whether or not to return to his old life of smuggling. The film is still looking for people to appear as extras. So if you’re in the New Orleans area, stop by!

Jonah Hill’s ‘21 Jump Street’ To Shoot This April In New Orleans

Looks like the pieces are finally in place for the long-gestating film adaptation of “21 Jump Street” which has been valiantly shepherded throughout by Jonah Hill. Speaking with MTVat the Critics’ Choice Awards over the weekend, the actor has provided an update on the production noting that “the ball’s very slowly rolling” and adding “We’re gonna shoot April 11 in New Orleans. I’m excited. I’ve never been to New Orleans before.”

Brad Pitt to return to New Orleans for thriller 'Cogan's Trade'

Add Brad Pitt to the long list of names headed for New Orleans in what already stood to be an exceptionally busy start to the new year for the local film industry.
Pitt, who often spends time at the French Quarter home he shares with Angelina Jolie and their six children, will begin working on the thriller "Cogan's Trade" in late February, with preproduction cranking up today (Jan. 3), according to the state's film office.

Efron filming 'Lucky One' in New Orleans

Principal photography has begun in New Orleans on the big-screen adaptation of Nicholas Sparks's novel "The Lucky One," Warner Bros. said.

The film, starring Zac Efron, Taylor Schilling andBlythe Danner, is being directed by writer/director Scott Hicks, whose credits include "Shine" and "No Reservations."

Hicks is directing the movie from a screenplay by Will Fetters, who wrote "Remember Me."

New Orleans Film Festival kicks off Thursday

The 2010 New Orleans Film Festival runs Oct. 14-21 at various locations around New Orleans.

This year’s highlights include opening night film Welcome to the Rileys a New Orleans-set drama starring James Gandolfini, Melissa Leo and Kristen Stewart.

The festival’s centerpiece film, Black Swan, stars Natalie Portman in a Darren Aronofsky-directed psychological drama about a ballet dancer engaged in a disturbing rivalry with another dancer.

'Batman 3' Shoots Next April In New Orleans

The pieces are starting to fall into place for the third "Batman" film. With a release date set for 2012 and Christopher Nolan confirming himself as the movie's director, yet another load of information has landed — the film's shooting location and start date.

Superhero Hype reports that Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment are looking to shoot "Batman 3" in New Orleans, with April targeted as a production start date. The time table fits with Michael Caine's recent comments thatfilming would begin in April.

If God is Willing, and Da Creek Don’t Rise

Water coolers will be abuzz with talk about Spike Lee’s new documentary premiering on HBO this week. “If God is Willing and Da Creek Don’t Rise” is a follow up to Lee’s 2006 documentary, “When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts,”  chronicling New Orleans’ remarkable and somewhat exhaustive journey to recover after the disaster of Hurricane Katrina.

The film will definitely evoke strong emotions from the people of metro New Orleans, both those home, and those still trying to make it back, as well as people around the country; maybe even the world.

Lee seems to hold nothing back. Covering people still dying to get back home years later; the perceived failure of the government to protect and serve its people; the economically-crippling oil spill by British Petroleum (BP); and the monumental Saints season that lead to a Super bowl victory that seemed to lift the spirits of the entire nation.

Hate it or love it… everyone will have something to say about this documentary. And maybe that’s Lee’s objective; not to make a film that people love, but to make a film that will incite responses and keep the discourse open. In which case, he nailed it.

If God is Willing and Da Creek Don’t Rise will debut on HBO in two parts. Part one on Monday, August 23rd and part two on Tuesday, August 24^th at 8pm CST.

'Sex and the City' events planned in and around New Orleans

It has to go down in cinema history as the film franchise that attracts the best dressed audiences. Few other movies have fans arriving in limos and Louboutins.

Sex and the City 2 opens May 27, and the flick once again is a fantasy romp through fashion’s greatest hits. Dior, McQueen, Halston Heritage and Manolo get as much face time as Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte.

SET VISIT: Jonah Hex Rises from the Grave in New Orleans!

No one wants to hear the words Howard the Duck in comparison to their latest work of cinematic art, but a flood of recent behind the scenes rumors have equated the upcoming Warner Brothers supernatural WesternJonah Hex to that much maligned cult oddity which featured a man in a duck suit making love to a crimped punk rocker while battling a space demon more concerned about the state of his fried eggs than his plans to envelope and destroy the Earth. Plot wise, Howard's stately persona has very little to do with Jonah Hex and his scarred-up face, except that they're both lesser known comic book entities whose audiences have failed to push them into the general pop consciousness before their films' release.

Almost five years ago, when the city of New Orleans was devastated by floods caused by the failure of the levees during Hurricane Katrina, the damages seemed irreparable. Thousands were displaced and many seemed hopeless. But there were those who saw this as an opportunity to rebuild with a strength and sustainability that the city had not seen prior to the flooding of 2005. GREEN LANTERN Begins Filming Tomorrow in New Orleans

Tomorrow marks the first official day of filming for director Martin Campell’s long-awaited 3D Green Lantern, starring RyanReynolds as Hal Jordan and Mark Strong as Sinestro.  The film has been in pre-production in New Orleans for several weeks and the first scene will be filmed tomorrow and through the 17th on location at the Old Point Bar, according to On Location.  DC’s CCO Jeff Johns recently visited the set andpraised both actors, saying “Ryan IS Hal, and Mark Strong is going to be a brilliant Sinestro.”

'Green Lantern' Test Footage Filming In New Orleans?

Warner Brothers' highly anticipated "Green Lantern" movie — starring Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan — is set to begin filming later this month. However, a news story out of New Orleans indicates that the film's production may be starting sooner than anticipated.

Nola.com is reporting that test footage for "Green Lantern" will be filmed tomorrow morning at a section of Lake Road in Madisonville, Louisiana. The report also states that the film crew will be shooting test runs with a stunt car, according to Bill Doyle — the supervising location manager for "Green Lantern."

Tom Hanks Screens Miniseries "The Pacific" In New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS — The National World War II Museum rolled out the red carpet Tuesday for actor Tom Hanks and the stars of a new HBO miniseries set during that war.

Hanks is an executive producer of "The Pacific," a 10-part miniseries which follows three U.S. Marines fighting in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

Hanks joined the miniseries' stars – James Badge Dale, Jon Seda and Joe Mazzello – for a screening of the first episode at city's convention center, followed by a reception at the New Orleans museum.

Oscar-nominated animated shorts get face time at the Prytania

If there's an annual Rodney Dangerfield of the Oscar field, it would definitely be the short-film categories.

Sure, the winners still earn trophies, and their directors still get their 15 seconds of fame during the Oscar telecast -- you know, before the orchestra inevitably starts playing them off the stage. But every year, even in the short-attention-span culture in which we live, audiences have trouble mustering up the energy to care.

To be Frankenstein: another film outing for the doctor is announced

Frankenstein is to return to the big screen in a modern day update based on a series of novels by the writer Dean R Koontz, Variety reports. The new adaptation suggests that Mary Shelley's famous creation, known only as "the monster" in her 1831 novel, lives on in contemporary New Orleans.

Koontz has so far written a trilogy of tales, with a fourth novel, Lost Souls, to follow in June. In his version, Dr Victor Frankenstein, creator of the original monster, is also still alive and thriving as a successful businessman and society favourite, having used his macabre discoveries to dramatically extend his own life.

Princess Tiana sings in New Orleans Square, joins royal court at Disneyland

After a successful run in “Tiana’s Showboat Jubilee,” Princess Tiana from the animated movie musical “The Princess and the Frog” will disembark from the Mark Twain riverboat for a show on dry land starting next week at Disneyland.

Beginning Feb. 5, “Princess Tiana’s Mardi Gras Celebration” will feature Disney’s first African American princess singing with a live band in New Orleans Square. Backed by the Jambalaya Jazz Band, Tiana will perform songs from the animated movie during “atmosphere” shows occurring five to seven times daily.
